Recipe
I've only made it 2 or 3 times, and idk how close this recipe is to mine, never tried. I wish I could find all my old recipes. :\
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup white sugar
- 5 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk
- 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Steps
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour one 9x13 inch baking pan.
- Sift flour and baking powder together and set aside.
- Cream butter or margarine and the 1 cup sugar together until fluffy. Add eggs and the 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract; beat well.
- Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture 2 tablespoons at a time; mix until well blended. Pour batter into prepared pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 minutes. Pierce cake several times with a fork.
- Combine the whole milk, condensed milk, and evaporated milk together. Pour over the top of the cooled cake.
- Whip whipping cream, the remaining 1 cup of the sugar, and the remaining 1 teaspoon vanilla together until thick. Spread over the top of cake. Be sure and keep cake refrigerated, enjoy!
Comments
- DICKSIELEE - March 03, 2003 - I love Tres Leches cake but this is not the best recipe. The eggs need to be separated, and the whites beaten prior to adding them to the batter. I have done it both ways, and despite the extra work, separating the eggs is well worth the effort.
- Serena - December 21, 2007 - My recipe is nearly identical - except I follow a slightly different method for making the cake portion - beat the butter first, for a few minutes until it is a light yellow color - then add the sugar and beat on high until it is very pale - add eggs one at a time (beating for 20 seconds between each egg); then add vanilla and beat for one more minute. Add flour mixture a little at a time and mix until batter is smooth (my batter is always a bit thick). For a slightly better rise in the cake add 1/4 tsp baking soda with the baking powder. I like to use 1 cup heavy cream and 1 cup whole milk (essentially half and half) instead of all regular milk... provides a creamier flavor.
